Teac P 55 - CD/DVD printer - color - thermal transfer - CD (4.75 in) - 400 dpi - capacity: 1 disks - Parallel

I'm an owner of the original P-55, now claimed by TEAC to be discontinued. Basically, it's a very nice industrial printer. Very heavy, bit noisy, but the print quality is consistent and vibrant. But here's the bottom line--if you're going to use this printer for about three years then throw it away, great. If you plan on keeping it around, look elsewhere. Here's why:
First of all, TEAC only released one set of drivers for this printer--the same ones that came on the disc included with the box. These particular drivers were buggy, and never updated. TEAC was contacted by me several times about problems and basically I was stonewalled. No help at all. So I continued to limp by with the included drivers. Nuisance more than anything, but occasionally resulted in the printer completing a disc just to suck it immediately back into the printer to lay another label on top of the first (wasting the disc of course). But even that I could live with once I knew I just couldn't do anything else on the computer when a print job was in the queue. That wasn't the worst of it however.
Once Windows Vista and Windows 7 were released, I contacted TEAC for updated drivers for either of those operating systems. I got a two sentence reply back from TEAC support:
"Unfortunately, there are no drivers for W7. The printer was discontinued a few years before the release of W7. You will have to keep on using this printer under a W2K or WXP environment only."
That's it. Now I have a perfectly working unit that needs to be run on an operating system soon to be defunkt. I invested $5600 in this printer in 2006 and TEAC completely dropped support for it basically as soon as it shipped. And that is the way TEAC Corporation does business. They'll put on a big marketing push to sell their latest and greatest, and once they have your money they just move on to the next thing and will not support existing clients, not even for a very high-price item such as this. My claim is backed by my aforelisted driver woes--even when the product was still in circulation. TEAC is a company that will do the bare minimum required to get your money in the first place, and once they have it, expect no support.
So beware, you'll get a very nice printer from a company who cares only about the next customer.

Never made it through the first batch of paper. The tray will not pick up the paper, the ribbon tears and cannot be re used.Dust gets in and leaves marks on your print,
Worst of all, it does not print from the computer anymore with system 7 or vista. This thing is a load of trouble and there are better ways to print photos.
I took mine to electronic recycling after printing only ten pictures with it.

Olympus P-330 Digital Home Photo Printer Review

Olympus P-330 Digital Home Photo Printer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This printer is designed for one task- printing 4x6 color images. It's not real fast or real cheap but it is very easy to use and the quality of the prints is comparable to conventional photos. This printer is particularly useful if you use your digital camera as a replacement for a point-and-shoot, and you want to be able to get good, quick prints with a mimimum of fuss. Individual prints are probably more expensive than conventional photos but you don't pay for printing pictures you don't want, so in the end it's probably more cost effective. Compared to ink-jet printers, it's clearly less versitile, but you don't have to remember to load special paper or make special settings, and you won't run out of ink in the middle of a print job, as each paper pack comes with a print cartridge that runs out when the paper does.

This review discusses the actual printer and not the shipper or my buying experience.
I have had the opportunity to use the Kodak 8500 to develop my home pictures. My FH20's pictures printed wonderfully. The higher DPI is clearly present and the printing speed is not as bad as I thought.
If you can find this printer, the quality is probably the best you will find for under 1000 USD. If you are considering a 7+ MP camera and want great quality shots, this is the way to go.
THE BIGGEST ISSUE WITH THIS PRINTER:
As of September 30, 2005 Kodak announced that this product was discontinued with support ending in 2008 (approximately).

Tascam P11/CART/TAS Disc Printer Cartiridge (Black, Blue, Green, Red) Review

Tascam P11/CART/TAS Disc Printer Cartiridge (Black, Blue, Green, Red)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The best advice that I can give about this ribbon is related with the way to use the 4 printing areas in which P-11 TEAC software lets you print. Even when you choose to print a small heading, it uses about three inches of ribbon for EACH area resulting in a big waste of ribbon and unused ink. I may suggest the use of only ONE area per CD taking all the advantage of the area space given by the software. In my case, I can print almost 120 CD's with only one ribbon with the mentioned recomendation.

Canon Selphy CP780 Silver Compact Photo Printer Review

Canon Selphy CP780 Silver Compact Photo Printer
Average Reviews:

I got tired of sending prints to the drugstore and getting mediocre quality, so I decided to see if I could manage it better with a printer at home. Even after I bought it, I was skeptical of what kind of results I'd get, but I was totally wowed. The prints are vivd, crisp, and gorgeous. I absolutely love it. The only qualm I have is the cropping issue another reviewer lamented about. If printing directly from the printer, you don't have many editing options. (It's designed for the less technically inclined.) Printing from a computer lets you be more specific as far as indicating the print area on your photo, but the 4x6 sizing is not conducive to digital images. You're going to lose part of your picture no matter what. Even so, it's incredible for the price, so I'm happy to sing it's praises.

Samsung SPP-2040 Digital Photo Printer ( Windows Macintosh ) Review

Samsung SPP-2040 Digital Photo Printer ( Windows Macintosh )
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
We bought this printer several months back. It prints beautiful photos, generally well-balanced colors and of a good quality. The final layer is waterproof and fingerprintproof, so it is great for making prints to share with friends and family (especially kids)
The only problem with the printer is that when you put in a memory card, it takes a long time to browse the photos. This is not a problem if you have a small memory card, but with a large collection of photos on a card it is impractical to browse the photos quickly enough, and even going from one photo to the next takes quite a few seconds. The onscreen menus for editing/changing photos is also quite limited. The best way to use the printer is to download the photos off your memory card onto a computer, select the ones you want to print, and dump them onto another memory card. Then, insert that into the printer and press the PRINT-ALL button.
A final note: this printer uses a special type of Samsung cartridge and Samsung paper that you have to buy as a bundle. You should only purchase this printer if you live in a place geographically close to a supplier that stocks it for a reasonable price, otherwise it is a hassle.

Sony DPP-EX5 Digital Photo Printer Review

Sony DPP-EX5 Digital Photo Printer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Pros: Prints decent photos from high-resolution images; its prints are relatively inexpensive and indestructible.
Cons: Can't view photos directly on printer; prints fall out of paper output tray when left unattended; noisy; doesn't run off batteries; low-resolution pictures become inferior prints.
Summary: I just purchased the Sony DPP-EX5 earlier this week. I am absolutly amazed! I have been using an Epson Stylus Photo 820 inkjet printer. That printer does produce very nice photos, however, I kept running into problems with ink clogs, poor edges in borderless photos, and the speed of the printer. So, knowing that all I ever print at home for photos is 4x6 prints, I decided to give the Sony a try. I am glad I did! Dye-sublimation produces much better and longer lasting prints. I have made many comparison prints from the Epson and the Sony. Hands down the Sony wins. And that is saying a lot considering Epson's reputation for making good photo printers. I still have the Epson as my everyday printer and it works well for that. But from now on for my photos it will be the Sony. When you factor in price per print and the fact that you are only printing the digital photos you want, it is very affordable. I am useing this printer in for photos shot with my Olympus C-5050 5mp camera. I purchased the DPP-EX5 at [local store]for [$$$]. The 25 pack ink/paper packs sell there for [$$$]. Not a bad deal. One last thing. If you purchase the Sony, download the most recent driver from Sony's website if you plan to use the printer with a pc like I do. It ads a few fine tuning options not on the included CD. Despite the cons, the pros still outwheigh the cons, to me. Just buy it, you will love it!

I've just purchased this tiny printer (It has size about a bedside alarm clock). I wasn't expecting too much since it costs only about 100 dollars (it's cheap compare to HP or Canon). But, as soon as start to print some pictures. WOW, the picture looks amazing. I used to print pictures from Snapfish and my old EPSON C84 but no comparison. It's just like a photo from old film camera.

I was worried about spending 500.00 for a printer, which I knew nothing about, but after reading reviews on Google.com I felt comfortable about doing it. The quality comes out great. You can't go wrong with getting this printer. One thing I did notice, it left a scratch on my prints, when I printed 4X6 images. I have not had a chance to see if it was a one time fluke or what. I'm waiting for more paper to arrive.

This HiTi printer is currently performing very well in my photo booth setup. 4x6 printing is fast and reliable and image quality is great. Color is vivid and tends to the red side when left on default "HiTi Classic Color" (manual adjustment is also available). 5x7 size slows down considerably. Had some trouble installing and the printer feels the need to reinstall itself every so often (I once had 4 instances of the printer installed on my Win7 laptop). This is my first dye sub and I purchased mainly because of the price but it was a vast improvement over ink jet printing (even though cost per print is about the same). Prints are virtually waterproof and it is compact enough for the mobile application I current use. I have not had any experience with the Sony dye subs so I can't compare. I have not tried the wireless transmitter yet, instruction manual for this seems daunting. Supplies are easy to get from the manufacturer.

Sony SVM-30SS Cartridge and Paper for Video Printers Review

Sony's use of Dye-Sublimation technology produces a print quality that truly rivals traditional photo print processing. With 16 million true color capability, Ink Jet photo printers can't get close to the image quality of the Dye-Sub printers. One common complaint of the Sony Digital Photo Printer is the price of the printer materials (paper and ribbon), but when taking into consideration the superior quality and convenience of printing pictures at home, the material cost is very low.
After years in a dark room printing traditional photo prints, I would put the dye-sub quality up against traditional any day.

You may never again have to pay for photo processing. These standard size 3-by-4-inch glossy sheets of paper let you print professional-quality borderless photos exactly like you used to except from a photo lab. This Sony paper features durable two-coat lamination, which protects and enriches your images by providing a glossy sheen and fade-resistance technology. The included ink ribbon is designed for use with five popular Sony photo printers, and will take full advantage of the millions of available colors to produce vivid tones and crisp details. HiTi Digital Inc. P110S Mobile Home / Studio On-the-go Photo Printer Review

HiTi Digital Inc. P110S Mobile Home / Studio On-the-go Photo Printer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I run a photobooth company, and we bought this printer to replace a Canon Selphy CP780. The Canon is also dye sub, prints in 1 minute, and has great quality - but it only holds 18 sheets at a time. That means a lot of paper & ink changing during an event while customers wait.
So we bought this printer for the 60 sheet capacity. During testing it worked ok, but not great. The paper feed would not work reliably if the paper tray was full, so we'd have to take some out each time. There were hairline scratches going the length of the photos, barely visible but annoying. And the prints took 1min 10sec, a little slower but still passable. Overall not great quality, but it seemed like it still might be adequate for our use.
During the first live event, it worked well for the first 15-30 minutes. Then the printer driver started showing a popup before every print that said something along the lines of "Please wait, printer driver is processing" and had a progress bar. During this time the CPU was idle (and so was the printer itself), so it was not truly processing anything - I believe this was a cooldown period. The manual stated that the if the printer overheated, it would pause long enough to cool down.
So the 1min 10sec print time become 3-5 minutes per print! Instead of a small wait for prints, we had customers waiting from 30 min up to an hour. At the end of the event, we were preventing people from leaving when they wanted.
On the positive side, we did contact support and they offered to ship it back to them at their cost to try to repair this. But with all the things wrong with this printer (paper feed, scratches, long print time) it leads me to believe these are systemic problems and not just related to my specific printer.
I was able to return this printer, and I'm glad I did. I was considering saving it as a backup printer, but even for that it's not useful. I'm keeping my CP780 as the backup printer, and we bought a Sony UP-CR10L to replace this. It's not in the same league at all (~$1000), but it is fast (20 sec prints), has good quality, holds 200 prints on a roll (no tear-off tabs), and the prints are cheaper.
Bottom line: Not recommended - definitely not for heavy usage, and really not even for light usage. For light use, I'd put up with the Canon CP780. For heavy usage, I'd recommend the UP-CR10L or the UPXC1, or a similar heavy-duty dye-sub printer. For medium usage (>50 sheet capcity,

The print quality of the Sony Digital Photo printer and paper is exceptional. The unfortunate part is, I inadvertently ordered 3 1/2" X 5" paper, thinking I got a great price.
The regular photo print size 4"X 6" is still painfully expensive, costing over $0.50 per print- more than twice the cost of 3 1/2 X 5. With a quick drive to a nearby store, 4 X 6 prints are $0.19 each in many pharmacies and department stores.

Sony DPP-FP67 Picture Station Photo Printer with Built-in 2.4-Inch LCD Tilt-Adjustable Display Review

Sony DPP-FP67 Picture Station Photo Printer with Built-in 2.4-Inch LCD Tilt-Adjustable Display
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Wonderful printer but a few facts. 1. This model does not have a "tilt" display. It has a fixed tilted display - not adjustable to ones height. The DPP-FP77 evidently does have an adjustable display. 2. Even though Amazon says that "people who bought this also bought" and shows the SVM-F75P ink and paper pack - this pack is not compatible with the DPP-FP67. It does show the SVM-F120P pack which is compatible. 3. You can order this printer (DPP-FP67) now and get it right away (Prime 1-2 day delivery), but Amazon doesn't sell the ink and paper packs for it. I got the printer but will have to wait a week or two for the ink and paper pack to come from N.Y. I borrowed some paper and an ink ribbon from a friend and am impressed with the printer but I think Amazon shouldn't sell a product that they can't support themselves and that claims a tilt display. They even wanted to charge me for returning the SVM-F75 saying that I ordered the wrong item and it was my fault. I had to call them to get it straightened out.
