(More customer reviews)The C77 ribbon mic sounds great. Instant vintage tone without screwing around with EQ. (I had an original RCA 77 version.. but it was in desperate need of expensive refurbishing...so I sold it)
The vocal sound I got with the C77 was similar to Nat King Cole's "Ramblin Rose". So it definitely does what it's supposed to. It's very sensitive to mic stand vibration & wind like the original ribbon mics of that era. A wind screen is a MUST!!! It was very sensitive to floor vibration as well.
I tried it on a VOX AC-30 with an old Gretsch Country Gentleman and it was great. It removed the harshness of that particular guitar/amp setup. It was very similar to the Beatles first sessions.
When I put it in front of a drum set with just the kick and snare close mic'd, the low end of the kick drum was present. (unusual for a room mic..at least with my past experience) It was simple and sounded fantastic!
The only thing that annoyed me about this mic is the hassle of threading the shockmount to a mic stand. It's attached to the mic...the mic is heavy...So I actually had to remove it from the mic to do it properly without the threat of stripping the shockmount threads. If you do this, don't lose the tiny washers!!!
Overall, the price is right & the quality is very good. I highly recommend it!!
