Max Space Butter Mill Dispenser Review

Max Space Butter Mill Dispenser
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
If you're the type who struggles when trying to spread cold butter on toast, this is just the gadget you need. My father-in-law loves kitchen gadgets, but this is his very favorite. Simply turning the handle forces a thin ribbon of butter to be extruded from a slot in the end of the dispenser. Even straight out of the refrigerator, the ribbon of butter is soft enough to spread with ease. The handle is big enough that it doubles as a stand, allowing you to store the dispenser in the fridge standing on a shelf. The dispenser is easily washed in the dishwasher.
One caveat though, the dispenser is designed for the longer, narrower sticks of butter commonly sold in the eastern U.S. If you live in the west, you'll need to trim the shorter, wider sticks sold there. If you do this while the stick of butter is cold, it only takes a few seconds. The trimmings go in on top of the trimmed stick, before reassembling the dispenser.
This is one gadget that really works, and one that actually does something that's useful.

Baker's Secret Basics Nonstick 9-Inch Round Cake Pan Review

Baker's Secret Basics Nonstick 9-Inch Round Cake Pan
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased 3 of these pans so I could bake layer cakes. The sides of the cake pan are slanted. When I baked a cake and started layering it, there was a definate Christmas tree look. Not what I want when layering and decorating. If I keep these pans I will have to trim the sides after the cake is layered and before it is frosted. To save time I will be looking for another set of cake pans.

Microplane Fine Grater Review

Microplane Fine Grater
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This grater really produces a puree, rather than a fine grate, of garlic or ginger - but that's actually preferable because it's far less likely to burn if you're planning to throw either into oil in an early phase of cooking, as is common in Indian, Middle Eastern, or Italian cuisine; and if you hold a peeled garlic clove with your fingernails (I have short ones and it works fine - just be careful at the end to avoid trimming your fingernails), you can get almost all of the garlic pureed very quickly, and throw away only a very thin skin from the back edge of the clove. It is so much easier than cleaning a garlic press or mincing by hand, and it is rare that a hand mince provides any benefit over a fresh puree. A garlic press can't compete on any level and I haven't touched one since I bought this tool about six months ago.
As with the coarse grater, though, I don't think it's particularly good for citrus zest, which tends to clog - maybe it's the curve in the surface, as the size of the holes is about the same as on the citrus grater. With all 3 graters, I tend to end up with more than I planned to use because I still can't get over how easy it is. They are more specialized than I initially hoped, but once you buy one you'll probably decide you want the others, too - they really are that good.
As with the coarse grater, this is also much easier to clean than an old-fashioned grater, because the sharp edges all run in one direction - just scrub against the grain and everything will come off very quickly without tearing up whatever you're using to clean.
I know I sound like a publicist for these tools, but even my mother, who has few kitchen tools she didn't buy 20-40 years ago, far prefers all of the Microplanes to the graters she used to use - they just really are far better than what used to be out there.

The oversized grating area and two way blades of this tool will zest citrus, grate Parmesan and shred nuts. Also handy for pureeing garlic. Because the baldes grate in both directions you get results twice as fast! Now while the teeth are tough on food, the handle is easy on your hand.

Tom Douglas by Pinzon Microplane Gourmet Series Large Shaver Review

Tom Douglas by Pinzon Microplane Gourmet Series Large Shaver
Average Reviews:

It's sharp, came with a small holder so you don't accidentally slice off your fingers and works well as long as you don't want to use large chunks with the holder. The holder is removable for those larger shaves/curls.
I didn't initially realize that this would come with the holder as the product description page said it was sold seperately, but the item I received had the holder packaged seperately, so I guess I got a bonus.
I have to say that I've only used this a few times as I don't make a whole lot of desserts, so can't testify as to its' longevity, but looks as if it will hold up in the long term.

Microplane 35019 Home Series Black Fine Ribbon Review

Microplane 35019 Home Series Black Fine Ribbon
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This particular grater is good at several things, but it is also in particular the finest zester ever made: hold the fruit in your off-hand and grate away on top of it with your good hand: the zest quickly and conveniently collects on the back of the blade. But even better: you can watch the grated area of the fruit slowly change from skin colour to white, so you know exactly when to stop before you start to get into the bitter pith.
An added bonus with the fine ribbon grater is that you can give it to your five year-old and have him do the job knowing that he cannot possibly injure himself. Oh, it's remotely possible he could hurt himself, sure, but one of the best early lessons I learned about child-rearing is that it's not our job to stop them getting hurt: we just have to stop them getting injured.
It's impossible to give a proper star rating to this particular grater, though, because the entire Microplane Home Series should be avoided like the plague because of the poor-quality, brittle, transparent plastic the frames are made of. The natural way to get the zest off the grater is to bang it on the edge of a bowl; unfortunately that's also the best way to shorten its life and ensure that your guests discover sharp-edged transparent, glass-like shards in their food.
I no longer own any Home Series graters, and Microplane currently doesn't make a fine ribbon in their Professional or Gourmet lines, so this one is unfortunately the only game in town at the moment. I was lucky enough to get an enormous job-lot of seconds and discontinueds directly from the Microplane site, and it happily included a Pro model of this one (with several different, replaceable blades: a brilliant design). Hopefully they'll reintroduce it, but in the meantime just go easy on this one.

Tom Douglas by Pinzon Microplane Gourmet Series Medium Ribbon Grater Review

Tom Douglas by Pinzon Microplane Gourmet Series Medium Ribbon Grater
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've used a Microplane zester and medium grater for several years and find them to be outstanding gadgets. Several friends received these as gifts from me throughout the years. As an Amazon fan, when I learned of Pinzon working with Microplane to create a line of graters, I jumped at the opportunity to try this ribbon grater. Since I knew nothing of Tom Douglas, his endorsement did not affect my decision to get the ribbon grater.
I first must recommend that if you get the grater, also splurge for the slider attachment. Because this particular grater is unlike others in that it has blades which allow for back and forth motion, the slider holds your cheese, chocolate, nuts or other harder food item, so your fingers and knuckles are better protected. The handle is especially comfortable and would be easier to hold for an arthritic hand because of it's larger and firm shape. The plastic shield is important to protect yourself from sharp blades, so be sure to snap it on before sticking this into a drawer. My other Microplane products do not have that protective shield and I have to be very cautious when searching for them. The rubber foot is also an added bonus which is lacking in my other graters, so I was able to comfortably hold the Pinzon Microplane grater over a plate and create fine ribbons of chocolate for a cake topping. It was secure and didn't slide all over the place. Made in the USA and dishwasher safe, I hand wash and air dry mine because I want to examine it and be sure it's perfectly clean and free of debris when I put it away. I'm going to investigate other products in this line.

Due to the shape of its dual edged teeth, the Medium Ribbon Grater grates thin strips in two directions. Microplane graters feature all stainless steel frame and blade construction, non-slip rubber feet, and ergonomic, soft touch handles for a more comfortable, sure grip.

A pain to use. A few years back, I found something similar that was absolutely great for making curly fries but this is definitely not it. This is definitely a drawer clutter item.

World Cuisine 48297-99 Tri-Blade Plastic Spiral Vegetable Slicer Review

World Cuisine 48297-99 Tri-Blade Plastic Spiral Vegetable Slicer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
For the money this is not a bad spiral slicer considering some list for over 100 dollars. The real sticking point is the fixed forward axle for whatever you are slicing. It consists of a round hollow cutting edge with an approximate 3/8 opening. This simply means whatever you are slicing will lose a 3/8 cylinder from its center. This is accepatable with Cucumbers and Zuchini but does not leave much when slicing Carrots, Raddishes or any other small diameter veggies.
I would not recommend this if you intend to use it for these smaller veggies but for potatoes, Apples and the like it is OK.

I like it when a tool performs as expected. This grater does just that. Tired of fighting with the graders in my kitchen, I decided to give this one a try. It works so well I picked up the other models as well. Easy to use, easy to clean, easy to store and it even comes with a cover to protect it during storage.
It works as advertised, I'll be picking up the others in the series.
