(More customer reviews)I've used a Microplane zester and medium grater for several years and find them to be outstanding gadgets. Several friends received these as gifts from me throughout the years. As an Amazon fan, when I learned of Pinzon working with Microplane to create a line of graters, I jumped at the opportunity to try this ribbon grater. Since I knew nothing of Tom Douglas, his endorsement did not affect my decision to get the ribbon grater.
I first must recommend that if you get the grater, also splurge for the slider attachment. Because this particular grater is unlike others in that it has blades which allow for back and forth motion, the slider holds your cheese, chocolate, nuts or other harder food item, so your fingers and knuckles are better protected. The handle is especially comfortable and would be easier to hold for an arthritic hand because of it's larger and firm shape. The plastic shield is important to protect yourself from sharp blades, so be sure to snap it on before sticking this into a drawer. My other Microplane products do not have that protective shield and I have to be very cautious when searching for them. The rubber foot is also an added bonus which is lacking in my other graters, so I was able to comfortably hold the Pinzon Microplane grater over a plate and create fine ribbons of chocolate for a cake topping. It was secure and didn't slide all over the place. Made in the USA and dishwasher safe, I hand wash and air dry mine because I want to examine it and be sure it's perfectly clean and free of debris when I put it away. I'm going to investigate other products in this line.
