(More customer reviews)I broke my wife's iPhone.
Well, to be fair it was already damaged. It had an issue with the volume switches constantly decreasing the volume. They were a bit loose so I opened the thing up and fixed it.
There's one thing they don't tell you about the iPhone 3G and 3Gs models. When you're opening the phone you should be very careful not to damage the "Number 3 ribbon cable". The problem is, it's hidden below another cable and slight pressure will damage it.
This "ribbon cable" is actually the entire proximity sensor unit and as it turns out is responsible for getting sound to the earpiece speaker on the front of the phone.
So, having damaged that my wife could use her volume buttons fine for Pandora and the like, but she couldn't hear anyone that called her unless they were on speaker phone.
So much for being a handyman.
Well, one "Iphone 3gs Proximity Light Motion Sensor Flex Cable" later and my wife's phone is in great shape. The phone is more accurate as to when it turns the screen off from the proximity sensor and the volume of the ear speaker is a bit louder.
She's as pleased as punch, and I'm a happy camper.
I almost bought two of these because I'd heard that the chances of getting a dud were high for aftermarket parts like these. I'm glad I didn't. This one did the trick first try and has been going strong for over a month.
